Youth to Meet Members of Congress on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON—A group of leaders and members representing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Appalachia are attending the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Summit for America’s Youth 2023 in Washington, D.C. on July 10-13.

Nashayla Harris and Bella Wagers, two exceptional 9th graders from Harlan Independent High School, will meet with their elected representatives in the U.S. House and Senate to speak on issues impacting youth, the importance of youth voice and the role the Club plays in our Appalachian Region.

Summit for America’s Youth serves as an opportunity for Boys & Girls Club members from across the country to experience the Nation’s capital along with the importance of civic engagement and advocating for issues important to them. Participants in this event will get access to influential leaders, experience in-depth advocacy trainings while also exploring different careers in politics and government.

Members are being accompanied by CEO Kateena Haynes, Harlan Teen Club Unit Director Miranda Jeffers, and Youth Development Professional Jacob Farmer.
